Wednesday – Mercury’s Day: Seeking Truth in a Sea of ‘Mis’ – Information!

Written by Jamie Epstein

It’s Wednesday, May 15, & Moon is in Leo, in the starspace or Nakshatra called Magha. In contrast to the divine feminine, unconditionally loving nature of Cancer, the energy of Leo is divinely masculine & protective. Cancer is about feeling, Leo about doing. Leo is where we take positive action steps, step fully into our role as sovereigns to rule our world with compassion & humility, not for the sake of ego gratification, of accruing more power or more spoils, like those from unnecessary wars. (We can talk about whether war is or is not ever necessary another time!)

Magha means “mighty” & is ruled by the Pitris, our forebears. this asterism reminds us that our might, our ability to be who we are & do what we do, is the result of the generations that have come before us & the sacrifices they made, the effort they made to evolve as far as they did. that accrued wisdom & experience is the baton they passed to us that we get to carry into the future & pass on ourselves. every day is a good day to remember & honor parents, teachers, mentors, etc., but especially today.

it’s the eighth lunar day (tithi), the eighth phase of the waxing moon, which marks the halfway point between new & full moons, when moon is equally dark & equally light, giving us an opportunity to create harmony between our own darkness & light, be with both, with the thorn & the rose, b/c, as Rumi said, “A rose’s rarest essence lives in the thorn.”

Wednesday is ruled by mercury, who seeks facts to dispel ignorance, to get at the truth. the Sanskrit word for ignorance is “avidya,” & Vedic philosophy is concerned with knowing the difference between what is real & what is not; that is, what is eternal (our soul) & what is temporal (our embodied existence). but & we can use mercury’s energy for more mundane purposes, like trying to sift through spin & bias in the media (misinformation? disinformation? who decides what’s what?) to find trusted sources to help us figure out what’s really going on in the world. No small task these days!

“Our number one enemy is ignorance. & I believe that is the number one enemy for everyone, not understanding what is actually going on in the world.”—Julian Assange

And that’s your daily bliss! which is a sort of lunar weather report. May it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss.
