Thursday, Ruled by Jupiter & Sagittarius: A Double Dose of Faith – Time to Reflect on What You Believe & Why

Written by Jamie Epstein

Action-Inaction, Same-Same—Whaaaat?!

It’s Thursday, September 12, & Moon is in Sagittarius, moving from the starspace or Nakshatra called Mula into Purvashadha midmorning. Sagittarius vibrates with the frequency of our belief system, which creates a container for our lives, the bubble of meaning in which we strive & thrive. But/&, much as we would like it to be otherwise, beliefs are not based on facts. the sign opposite Sag is Gemini, where Mars is giving us the courage to use our discriminating intelligence to hold our beliefs accountable to evidence, to ask ourselves whether our beliefs are bringing us into our highest alignment or not.

Mula reminds us that we have to uproot (“Mula” = “root”) in order to make space to plant something new, like getting rid of old clothes to make room in the closet for new ones. Purvashadha reminds us that victory comes one step at a time, & it starts with planting new seeds.

“A person is not a potted plant of predetermined personality but a garden abloom with the consequences of chance & choice that have made them who they are, resting upon an immense seed vault of dormant potentialities. At any given moment, any seed can sprout—whether by conscious cultivation or the tectonic tilling of some great upheaval or the composting of old habits & patterns of behavior that fertilize a new way of being. Nothing saves us from the tragedy of ossifying more surely than a devotion to regularly turning over the soil of personhood so that new expressions of the soul can come abloom.”—Maria Popova

It’s the ninth lunar day (tithi), the ninth phase of the waxing Moon, until noon MDT, then the tenth. The ninth tithi supports us in continuing to unpack our shadow, to confront & release any negative energy, in whatever form, preventing us from being our best possible selves, from fulfilling our dharma, our destiny, which is what the tenth tithi supports. The Bhagavad Gita teaches us that there is action in inaction, that choosing not to do something (whether voting or taking out the trash) has repercussions just as doing something does, our doing or not doing another step forward on our journey.

“Not only our actions, but also our omissions, become our destiny.”—Abraham Verghese (in “cutting for stone”)

Thursday is, like Sagittarius, ruled by Jupiter, so it’s a double-good day to double-down on what we believe & why.

And that’s your daily bliss! Which is a sort of lunar weather report. May it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss.
