New Moon in Purnavasu: The Return of the Light!

BE A POSITIVE SPIN DOCTOR FOR YOUR LIFE

It’s Friday, July 5, & Moon is in Gemini, in the starspace or Nakshatra called Ardra, but/& we have a New Moon in Punarvasu later today. Gemini is the sign of mental curiosity, like that of a child picking up a new toy & wondering how to employ it, being intrigued by their feet & surprised that they can take them somewhere, expand their horizons.

A New Moon is formed by the union of Sun & Moon, by their exact conjunction. So while Moon will be dark as dark, in Ardra, all day as it gets closer & closer to that full convergence, the New Moon itself will be born in Punarvasu.

Ardra brings storms, the kind of internal storms that ultimately lead to transformation. Punarvasu brings the light back into our life (literally—Punarvasu means “the return of the light”) after that dark night of our soul. It invites us to let go of our darkness, our debilitating habits, negative tendencies & limiting beliefs, so we can see our life with new eyes, with a fresh perspective.

Moon & Mercury are in each other’s signs (Moon in Gemini, Mercury in Cancer), supporting each other, which they’re not usually so good at! This allows them to talk to each other, rather than, say, letting our stories (our mind) overpower our feeling (our heart) nature or our emotions wreak havoc with rationality.

The exact point (20 degrees gemini, for you astro nerds) where New Moon occurs is associated with the goddess Indrani, who presides over negative tendencies, like jealousy, which arise when we compare ourselves to others & come up lacking, feel less than. Radhanath Swami calls comparing, complaining & criticizing the three cancers of the mind.

Are you afflicted with this particular cancer? I, for one, constantly berate myself for my messiness, comparing it to one of my besties’ neatness. While her kitchen & office are tidy AF, mine are always, well, not so much!

Our Moon work for the waxing fortnight is to write a new, more uplifting story for our life by seeing it with fresh eyes, as if for the first time, with curiosity, not judgment, as a child might. for me it reads like: how I roll is a gift that informs my uniqueness, that I’m just not linear, that the storm around me is not chaos but an aliveness that feeds my creativity. What’s your new story going to be? (full disclosure: I’m also going to tidy up my office, lol!)

And that’s your daily bliss! which is a sort of lunar weather report. May it allow you to align with the day’s cosmic energy so you can find & create a little more bliss.
